The Partnership Behind the Rebuild: Tribees and Appinventiv’s Story

More Than a Development Team: How Appinventiv Became a Trusted Tech Partner

When Ru, Product Strategy and UX Lead at Tribees, needed a development team for Tribees, he asked someone he trusted for a recommendation.

The answer was Appinventiv.

But there was a twist. When Ru contacted the team, the project he believed Appinventiv had been recommended for turned out not to be one they knew. What started as a well-vouched-for introduction suddenly became, in his words, “a complete shot in the dark”. As it turned out, it was “the best thing that could have happened”.

The Vision: Fixing the “Endless Camera Roll”

Tribees was created to solve a simple problem: the “endless camera roll that never gets sorted”.

Whether it is travelers, parents capturing kids’ sports, sports fans, or Gen Z users, people take massive numbers of photos. The traditional habit is to capture everything now and promise to organize it later; a tedious task that rarely gets done.

Ru envisioned a product that flips this process. Tribees allows users to “sort first.” By selecting or creating an album before snapping a picture, users take photos directly into their chosen folder, meaning memories are organized at the exact point of capture.

Trust Started with the Right Questions

With nearly two decades of experience in technology recruitment, Ru had seen enough development teams to know what good engagement looked like.

What stood out early was Appinventiv's approach. The team did not rush into building. They asked questions, challenged assumptions and worked to understand the product before moving forward.

“They were really detailed… attention to detail, excellent.”

More importantly, they were “asking the right questions and not doing anything until they understood it properly”.

That attention soon had its first major test.

Bringing the “Short First” Features to Life

Appinventiv wasn't just turning designs into code; they were tasked with building a single, seamlessly integrated camera and photo organization experience. The team delivered a robust set of features to make the "sort first" concept a reality:

  • An In-App Camera paired with a Camera Carousel: This allowed users to easily swipe and switch between albums right before taking a photo.
  • Direct-to-Album Capturing: Users could shoot directly into default albums (like Friends, Selfies, Food, and Sport) or create custom albums where they could take or select their own cover photos.
  • Multi-Level Organization: The team built out the capability for sub-albums. For example, a user could create a main “Holiday” album containing completely separate folders for scuba diving, horse riding, or mountain climbing.
  • Browse Mode: Users could use the carousel to smoothly move through albums and instantly see the photos within each.
  • Fluid Photo Management: Intuitive tools allowing users to easily move and organize photos between different albums and sub-albums.

The First Demo Changed Everything

A couple of weeks into the engagement, Appinventiv presented its first demo.

Ru had worked with development teams before where the final product did not always match the agreed designs. In some cases, developers had even changed parts of the design based on their own judgement.

So, when the first demo arrived, he knew exactly what he wanted to see. This time was different. The designs had been reproduced so closely that his reaction was immediate:

“These guys are unbelievable.”

“They were absolutely identical, working in exactly the right way.”

The first demo established something far more valuable than technical capability: confidence that the team understood the product and could deliver what had been envisioned.

When Pressure Increased, the Team Stepped Up

Tribees had approximately a month to rebuild the product. As the deadline pressure increased, Appinventiv expanded the team beyond the original arrangement.

“At one point, there were 13 people working on it. We’d only contracted like four.”

For Ru, that demonstrated commitment.

The team was not simply focused on completing assigned tasks. They wanted to get the product over the line and get it done properly.

Appinventiv remained accommodating but was transparent about the trade-offs.

“It’s not that we don’t want to do it. It’s just it’s going to impact your release date.”

That honesty helped build the kind of working relationship where changes could be discussed openly and decisions could be made quickly.

Collaboration Made the Difference

The project settled into a rhythm: build, test, release and iterate.

Across four major releases, Appinventiv and Ru developed a highly collaborative way of working. The QA team did not simply wait until the end to identify issues. They questioned designs, raised concerns and discussed possible solutions throughout the process.

“So collaborative… honestly, it was brilliant. It just made it so easy.”

The result was a product Ru describes as “robust”, with the details working as intended from camera functionality and animations to transitions and overall user flow.

“It was just really solid, everything was working and flowing nicely.”

From One Project to Lasting Confidence

Perhaps the strongest measure of a development partnership is what happens after the project.

Tribees eventually had to pause development because of funding constraints. But the pause had nothing to do with dissatisfaction.

When funding returns, Ru wants the same team back.

“Hopefully all the same people.”

In fact, his confidence in Appinventiv had already gone beyond Tribees. Ru started working with the team on another project and immediately noticed the same qualities: people asking questions, engaging deeply with the problem and taking the time to understand before acting.

“It was just again exactly the same.”

For Ru, that consistency mattered. It showed that his experience with Tribees was not dependent on one person or one project.

Today, he has a simple level of confidence in the relationship:

“I can’t speak highly enough for you guys.”

What began as a “complete shot in the dark” became a partnership built on detailed execution, honest communication and consistent collaboration.

And that, ultimately, is what transformed Appinventiv from a development team into a trusted tech partner.
